Aggie Menís Tennis Falls in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The New Mexico State men’s tennis team lost the first of four matches it will play this weekend.  The Aggies lost, 6-1, to home-team UNLV on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex to fall to 1-2 in the spring.

Sophomore Liam Goldberg picked up the only win for NM State, defeating Willie Sublette in extra points 6-1, 1-6, 6-5 (8-6).  Goldberg now has two-straight singles wins at the No. 4 spot.

UNLV won the remaining five singles matches, four in straight sets.  The only other Aggie player besides Goldberg to win a set was junior Germain Degardin who lost to Dimitar Petrov.

On the doubles side, the NM State duo of senior Marc Westgate and sophomore Naveen Manivannan lost, 6-1, while redshirt sophomore Paul Denele and freshman Charles Baron lost 6-2.

The Aggies continue play at the Fertitta Tennis Complex with two matches on Saturday, Feb. 1, and one on Sunday, Feb. 2.  NM State faces UC Riverside (10 a.m.) and Southern Mississippi (2 p.m.) on Saturday and Weber State (10 a.m.) on Sunday.
