LAS CRUCES, N.M. (March 31) - The New Mexico State men's tennis team ended its 10-game losing streak by defeating Northern Arizona 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the NM State Tennis Center.

Five of the six singles players for NM State (5-13, 1-2 WAC) lost the first set to dig the Aggies into an early hole.  But NM State fought back against the Lumberjacks to send four of the singles matches to a decisive third set.

Senior Matej Stakne trailed 2-1 in the third set before rallying to defeat Shaun Waters of NAU 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot.  Stakne's win clinched the Aggies' first team victory since Feb. 5 against No. 54 UNLV.

In the final match of the day, freshman Germain Degardin battled back after trailing 3-6, 3-4 to Northern Arizona's Patrick Schimmelbauer to send the match to a third set.  Degardin won the third 6-4.

Freshman Patrick Pfister helped NM State capture the early momentum after a quick 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 singles position.  Freshman Eduardo Cabrita won 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot to end NAU's quick start after the Lumberjacks took the Nos. 3 and 6 singles matches.

The Aggies won the doubles point with victories by Marc Westgate/Luis Ramirez at No. 1 and Stakne/Cabrita at No. 3.

NM State will return to action Sunday morning when they host conference foe Idaho (9-13, 0-2 WAC) at 9 a.m. MT.
