LAS CRUCES, N.M. (March 30) - The New Mexico State men's tennis team fell 4-3 to UT Arlington in a Friday afternoon match at the NM State Tennis Center.

The Aggies (4-13) got off to a good start against UTA (5-9) by sweeping all three doubles matches to gain a 1-0 advantage.

UTA battled back with three quick singles wins to put the Aggies on the ropes 3-1. The Mavericks won in straight sets at the Nos. 2, 5 and 6 spots to put pressure on the hosts.

NM State knotted the match at 3-3 with a pair of wins in the middle of the lineup. Junior Luis Ramirez scored a straight set 7-5, 6-4 victory to pull the Aggies to within one. Freshman Germain Degardin won in three sets in to tie the match. Degardin took the first set 6-3, dropped the second by the same score then won 6-3 again in the deciding set.

The match was decided at the top spot in the lineup. Aggie senior Matej Stakne won the first set in a tiebreaker at 7-6. UTA took set two 6-2 to force a third set. Stakne ran out of gas in the third, as UTA claimed the match on a 6-0 win in the third set.

The Aggie men's tennis team looks to snap its losing streak when it faces Northern Arizona on Saturday, March 31 at 2 p.m. before finishing the weekend against WAC rival Idaho on Sunday, April 1, at 10 a.m.
