SANTA CLARA, CALIF. – New Mexico State men’s tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 49 Santa Clara on Sunday, March 16. The Aggies are now 8-8 this season.

The Aggies took the double point from the Brancos as junior Patrick Pfister and redshirt sophomore defeated their opponents 8-4 at the No. 2 court. The other Aggie win of partner play came at the third court when newcomer Charles Baron and junior Germain Degardin teamed up for an 8-4 win.

“Even though we lost, we competed very well,” head coach Carlos Vargas said. “We are starting to play better doubles matches and are really working well as a team.”

In singles play, the Aggies fell at the first four courts, but saw wins come at No. 5 from Pfister and the sixth position from sophomore Naveen Manivannan.

Pfister went three sets to win his match. He won the first set 6-3, fell in the second set 2-6 but then came back for a 6-4 win in the third set for the win. Manivannan also took his match to three sets before winning 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.
