LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men’s tennis team picked up its second straight Western Athletic Conference win 6-1 over Kansas City, improving to 2-0 in league play and 6-3 this season.
NM State claimed the doubles point with wins at the second and third courts. Redshirt sophomore Paul Denele and sophomore Naveen Manivannan teamed up at the No. 2 position for a 6-1 win over their Kangaroos opponents. Sophomore Strahinja Trekacov and junior Germain Degardin won at the third court 6-3.
The Aggies won five of the six singles matches as well. Trekacov went three sets with Mike Psarros before claiming the 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot. Denele won at the second court 6-4, 6-2, while Degardin and junior Patrick Pfister each won their matches in straight sets at the fourth and fifth courts, respectively.
The final Aggie win of the day was a 6-3, 5-6, 10-5 win for Manivannan over Uldis Gaismins at court No. 6.
NM State continues at home with Abilene Christian on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. and the Arizona Wildcats on Feb. 23 at 12 p.m.
