LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men’s tennis team impressed on Day Two of the home-hosted Aggie Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21, when two Aggies advanced to the finals round of their singles flights and two doubles pairs won their semifinals matches to advance as well.
Sophomore Liam Goldberg advanced to the finals round with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Borja Cortes of Abilene Christian. Fellow sophomore Strahinja Trecakov won his semifinals match with a 6-1, 7-6(5) victory over his opponent.
Sophomore Naveen Manivannan fell in his semifinals in a tough 7-6, 6-4 match, but is set to play for third place in his flight on Sunday versus Bryan Cunningham of New Mexico. Junior Germain Degardin is also set to play for third in his flight after falling 7-6, 7-5 in the semifinals match.
On the doubles courts, a battle of the Aggies is set as Thomas Douglas and Manivannan will face senior Marc Westgate and Goldberg for the title in their flight. Trecakov and sophomore Jeremy Harlas will also play in the championship round against a duo from Northern Arizona.
The Aggies wrap up the final day of the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 22, with doubled beginning at 9 a.m.
