LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The New Mexico State men's tennis team returns to the NM State Tennis Center on Sunday, March 17, to face Western New Mexico at 11 a.m.
The Aggies (7-4) get back to the NM State Tennis Center after facing in-state rival New Mexico just a week ago in Albuquerque. The Aggies fell 4-3 to the Lobos, but came back on Sunday, March 10, for a 4-3 win over DePaul.
The Aggies are led on the courts by freshman Daniel Fernandez and redshirt freshman Paul Denele. Fernandez is 7-3 in singles play this season with his most recent win coming against UNM last Saturday. Degardin is 7-2 in individual play and is currently on a four-match winning streak while playing mostly at the fourth and fifth positions. The freshman has not lost since February 2, against No. 71 UNLV.
The Mustangs are 6-9 going into the week, but face Cameron University and UT Permian Basin before making the trip to Las Cruces on Sunday.
The in-state battle is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday at the NM State Tennis Center. After the Sunday match, the Aggies welcome UT Permian Basin on Tuesday, March 19, at NM State.
