Aggie Women’s Golf Finishes Play at Cowgirl Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. (April 10) – The New Mexico State women’s golf team concluded play at its final tournament before heading to the WAC Championship Tournament, the Cowgirl Classic hosted by the University of Wyoming, on Wednesday. 

The Aggies finished in 18th place after shooting a final round 46-over-par 334 to give them a total three-round score of 117-over 981 (338-309-334). 

For the sixth time in nine tournaments this season, NM State was led by freshman Kacey Dalpes who finished with a total score of 16-over-par 232 (81-72-79), good enough to place her in a tie for 20th.  Dalpes’ 7-under round was also the Aggies’ best round of the day.

This is the fifth time Dalpes has been alone as NM State’s top finisher.  She also finished tied with fellow freshman Viviana Macias at the BYU at Entrada Classic, as they both led the Aggies.

Among the other NM State golfers, junior Amelie Buhl finished in 82nd place with a 33-over-par 249 (83-80-86), Macias carded a 38-over 254 (87-79-88) to finish in a tie for 90th, sophomore Laura Barron finished in 96th place with a 40-over 256 (87-87-82), sophomore Paige Darwin shot a 41-under 257 (92-78-87) to finish in a tie for 97th, and senior Marisa Bautista, who was playing as an individual, finished in 103rd with a 53-over-par 269 (94-87-88).

Boise State led the tournament from start to finish ending up with a total-team score of 37-over-par 901 (307-301-293), 19 strokes better than its nearest competitor, Xavier, who finished with a 56-over 920 (325-296-299).  Portland State rounded out the top 3 with a 60-over-par 924 (322-297-305).

Individually, Boise State’s Hayley Young also led all the way through the tournament.  She finished with a 2-under 214 (71-71-72).  Portland State’s Aram Choi and Britney Yada reversed positions from the end of round two, with Choi finishing in second at 5-over 221 (77-73-71), and Yada one shot behind at 6-over 222 (77-71-74).

The Aggies will now prepare to close out their 2012-13 season at the WAC Championship Tournament to be played April 22-24 in Mesa, Ariz.
