CHANDLER, Ariz. - The New Mexico State women's golf team finished the 2012 Wyoming Cowgirl Classic with a 307 in the final round of play, Wednesday, April 11 on the par 72, 6,184 yard Ocotillo Golf Resort. The Aggies came in with a 918 (305-306-307) to place 12 or 13 in the 24-team tournament.
Iowa won the tournament with an 884 (289-301-294) and Colorodo State finished in second place six strokes behind with an 890 (292-292-306). CSU's Brianna Espinoza won the individual medal with an 8-under-par 208 (68-68-72) and Iowa's Kristi Cardwell placed second and was the only other player to finish under par as she scored a 3-under par 213 (68-70-75).
Sophomore Demi Mak shot a 1-over-par73 in the final day of play as she had three birdies, four bogeys and 11 pars on Wednesday. Mak came in tied for ninth with a three round score of 6-over-par 222 (74-75-73). Senior Ashley Elias did well in the final day of play marking a 2-over-par 74 and tied for 23rd with a three-day score of 10-over-par 226 (76-76-74).
Sophomore Lindsay Reeve tied for 71st with a 236 (78-78-80) and junior Aileen Meredith carded a 237 (77-78-82) to tie for 75th. Junior Amelie Buhl wasn't too far behind with a 239 (82-77-80) to tie for 84th out of the 128 competitors in the tournament.
The Aggies now look forward to the 2012 WAC Championship, April 23-25 in Mesa, Ariz. at the Longbow Golf Club.
