Aggies Move Up a Spot in the Final Day of the UNLV Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The New Mexico State women's golf team moved up a spot to finish 10th in the 2012 UNLV Spring Invitational at the par 72 Cascata Golf Club, Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Aggies posted scores of 315, 318, 327 for a 960.

Nationally ranked Arizona won the 11-team tournament with an 872 (289-294-289), while host team UNLV finished 19 strokes back in second place with an 891 (290-296-305). San Diego State, also ranked in Golfweek/Sargin rankings rounded out the tournament in third place with a 905.

Arizona's Isabelle Boineau and Manon Gidali won the tournament as each player tallied a 2-over-par 218. Aggie sophomore Demi Mak jumped a spot on the leaderboard to tie for 16th with a 10-over-par 226.  After posting a 71 in round two, she tallied a 76 and marked 37 pars in three rounds of play, which was third most pars of all players in the tournament.

Senior Ashley Elias, freshman Laura Barron and sophomore Mieke Canan finished 48th, 49th and tied for 50th respectively. Elias struggled a bit scoring a 244 (80-83-81) and Barron tallied a 246 (79-82-85), while Canan tied with a 247 (80-82-85). Sophomore Amelie Buhl wasn't too far behind as she tied for 52 with a 249 (77-85-87).

Next up for NM State is the Bruin-Wave Invitational, March 5-6 in Tarzana, Calif.
