NM State Women's Golf Set for 14th Appearance at NCAA Regional Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State women's golf team travels to Auburn, Wash. to play in the 2011 NCAA West Regional Tournament on the Washington National Golf Club, May 5-7.

The Aggies, who were selected as an at-large bid, are making their first NCAA Regional Tournament appearance since 2006 when they finished 15th. The team is set to join 23 other teams in Auburn, Wash. to play on the par-72, 6,266 yard Washington National Golf Club Course.

"This is exciting for us and we all believe that we worked hard to get to this point," head coach Paul Brilliant said.  "This team is capable of so much and I am proud that they are able to compete in this tournament."

Playing for the Aggies in the regional tournament will be seniors Suteera (Pang) Chanachai, Apinporn (Mint) Swaschuto, Lauren (Buz) Bowerman-Ritchie, along with junior Ashley Elias and freshman Demi Mak.

Mak was named 2011 WAC Freshman of the Year and joined Chanachai on the All-WAC First Team this season.  Co-head coaches Paul Brilliant and Jackie Booth were named 2011 WAC Coaches of the Year as voted on by the leagues coaches.

The three regional tournaments will be conducted May 5-7 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies apply.

A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.

The championships finals will be held May 18-21 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas and will be hosted by Texas A&M University, College Station.
