DENVER - New
Mexico State senior Suteera (Pang) Chanachai was named the Verizon Western
Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for April 4-10.
Chanachai, a native Bangkok, Thailand (Demonstration Yamhumghang University),
tied for third place at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic held April 4-5 in Chandler,
Ariz. She shot an even-par 216 (76-67-73) to finish three strokes behind
the leaders. Her 67 in the second round was a career-best.
"It is a good way to end the regular-season and head to the WAC Championships," head coach Paul Brilliant said.
Chanachai recorded 10 birdies in the tournament, the second most out of the 122 participants. Her score helped New Mexico State to a second place finish in the 23-team field. It is the first time in her career that Chanachai has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.
The Aggies head to Mesa, Ariz. to play in the 2011 WAC Championships, April 15-17 at the Long Bow Country Club.
