NM State Women’s Golf Wraps Up Mountain View Collegiate with Best Round of the Season

TUCSON – The New Mexico State women’s golf team posted its best round of the season shooting a 291 in the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate, Saturday, March 29 on the Mountain View Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz.

The 291 bested yesterday’s 295 with Viviana Macias carding a 1-under-par 71 to lead the Aggies to a tie for sixth with Brigham Young University in the team standings.  It was the second time this year that Macias tallied a 71 as she also accomplished it at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational during the fall season. She ended the weekend with a 2-over-par 218 (72-75-71). Viviana’s sister, Valeria Macias, was the second best finisher for the Aggies tying for 19th with a 5-over-par 221 marking her second top-20 finish of the year.

Nebraska won the Mountain View Collegiate with a three-day team total of 10-over-par 874, while Kent State was just one stroke behind at 11-over-par 875. Missouri finished in third place, while Gonzaga and Minnesota were in fourth and fifth place respectively, just strokes ahead of the Aggies.

Aggie golfer Camille Orito shot well in the final round posted a 2-over 73 to finish tied for 25th with a 7-over-par 223 (78-72-73).  Orito’s 73 was her best round of the year beating her previous best of 3-over-par 75 that she carded in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational on Sept. 23, 2013.  New Mexico native Kacey Dalpes moved up nine spots from Friday to finish in a tie for 35th with a 10-over 226.

Kristen Cline rounded out the Aggie lineup, finishing in a tie for 42 with an 11-over-par 227 (78-75-74). NM State finishes the regular season with the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, April 7-8 in Maricopa, Ariz.  The Western Athletic Conference Championship is scheduled for April 25-27 in Mesa, Ariz.
