LAS CRUCES, N.M. – For the second-consecutive year the New Mexico State women’s golf team will conclude its fall schedule by taking a trip to the islands of Hawai’i to compete in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai’i.

The three-round tournament is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 29, and run through Thursday, Oct. 31, with 18 holes being played on each day at the par-72, 6,228-yard Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawai’i.  Each round will have a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. local time (12:30 p.m. MT).

A total of eight teams will be competing in the tournament.  There will be two other Western Athletic Conference members joining the Aggies, Grand Canyon University and Utah Valley University.  The rest of the field includes host Hawai’i, BYU, Colorado State, Northern Arizona and Sacramento State.

NM State golfers making the trip across the Pacific to play in Hawai’i include freshman Valeria Macias, sophomores Kacey Dalpes and Viviana Macias and juniors Laura Barron and Paige Darwin.  Dalpes, Barron and Darwin also competed during the 2012 Rainbow Wahine Invite for the Aggies.  The Macias sisters are making their first trip to the islands for NM State.

Aside from Darwin, the other four Aggie golfers going to Hawai’i have also played in NM State’s three previous tournaments this season.  Darwin, meanwhile, has golfed in two of the three tournaments.

Last year’s Rainbow Wahine Invitational saw the Aggies finish in 11th place.  NM State was led by former Aggie golfer Aileen Meredith who finished in a tie for 16th place.  Florida International swept the team and individual titles in 2012, the team with a 31-over 895 and FIU golfer Shelby Coyle with a 2-over 218.

This will be the fourth and final tournament of the fall schedule for NM State.  The Aggies are coming off a 10th place finish at their home tournament, the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate, held Oct. 7-9.
