Aggie Women’s Golf Finishes Play in Home Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Oct. 10, 2012) - The New Mexico State women's golf team wrapped up play at its home tournament, the Price's "Give Em' Five" Intercollegiate, held at the New Mexico State University Golf Course with an 11th place finish on Wednesday.

The Aggies finished the final round with a score of 14-over-par 302, giving them a total three-round score of 41-over-par 905 (299-304-302). 

Freshman Kacey Dalpes was the top finisher for NM State, finishing in a tie for seventh.  It is the best individual finish by an Aggie golfer this season.  For the second consecutive round Dalpes finished with four birdies on the day.  She shot a three-round total score of 3-over-par 219 (70-75-74).

Senior Aileen Meredith had the low round of the day for the Aggies, shooting an even-par score that included a couple of birdies.  She concluded the tournament in a tie for 24th with a total score of 9-over-par 225 (75-78-72).

As for the rest of the golfers on the NM State team, sophomore Laura Barron shot a three-round total of 13-over-par 229 (76-76-77) to finish in a tie for 43rd, junior Amelie Buhl finished with a 16-over-par 232 (78-75-79) to tie for 53rd and sophomore Paige Darwin tied for 69th with a total score of 27-over-par 243 (79-81-83).

Among the participants tied for 69th with Darwin was senior Marisa Bautista, who was one of three Aggie golfers playing as individuals.  Bautista also finished with a 27-over-par 243 (81-79-83).  Junior Mieke Canan had the best finish among NM State individual golfers, finishing in 67th with a total score of 25-over-par 241 (77-78-86).  Rounding out the Aggie individual golfers was senior Cheryl Lo who finished in a tie for 74th with a 32-over-par 248 (84-82-82).

Kansas, which won its home tournament two weeks prior, took first place in Las Cruces as well.  The Jayhawks finished with a total team score of 7-over-par 871 (294-289-288).  Washington State finished 10 strokes back with a 17-over-par 881 (296-296-289) while Idaho, which held the lead after the first day of the tournament, rounded out the top 3 with a final score of 19-over-par 883 (290-297-296).

Individually, Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas took home first place with a three-round total score of 3-under-par 213 (69-71-73).  Kawinpakorn led after every round of the tournament and was the only golfer to finish with a total score under par.  Idaho's Kaitlyn Oster finished in second with an even score of 216 (73-71-72), three shots behind Kawinpakorn.

After wrapping up the 13th edition of the Price's "Give Em' Five" Intercollegiate, NM State now looks forward to participating in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown hosted by UNLV to be held Oct. 21-23.
