ERIE, Colo. (May 12, 2012) - Sophomore Demi Mak wrapped up the 2011-12 season shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the final day of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional at the 6,575 yard, par 72 Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo.
The native of Hong Kong tied for 61st with a three round total of 228 (79-76-73). Mak carded three birdies, four bogeys and 11 pars in the final round to end the season for NM State.
UCLA and LSU tied for first in the tournament and will move on to the NCAA Championships along with Pepperdine, Colorado, Baylor, Stanford, North Carolina and Oklahoma, who finished third through eighth respectively. Individuals advancing from the regional are Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman and Gabriella Dominguez. Dominguez won a one-hole playoff with UC Davis' Amy Simaton.
Three regional tournaments were conducted May 10-12 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies apply. A total of 378 participants were selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals advance from each regional.
The championships finals will be held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., and will be hosted by Vanderbilt.
