Shin Fifth, NM State Tied for 10th at Bayou City Collegiate

HOUSTON, Texas – NM State men’s golfer Justin Shin continues to find his way at the top of the leader board at the Bayou City Collegiate Championships at the par 72; 6963-yard, Redstone Golf Club. He carded a 3-under par, 69 in round two and is currently tied for fifth overall at 4-under par, 140 (71-69).

"Shin continues to play great golf and Walker played like he has at home," head coach Mike Dirks said. "Kenneth played solid as well. For the most part we played good golf. We kept the ball in play and had a lot of pars."

As a team, the Aggies are tied for 10th overall at 12-over par, 588 (299-289). NM State improved 10 strokes from round one to round two, shooting a team score of 1-over par, 289 in round two.

 

Derek Baade and Willy Hogan were both tied for 58th overall at 7-over par, 151. Baade was 2-over par, 74 in the second round, while Hogan shot a 5-over par, 77.

 

Brett Walker rebounded in round two with a 10 strokes difference from round one to round two. He carded a 1-under par, 71. Walker is currently tied for 62nd overall with a two-day score of 8-over par, 152 (81-71). Kenneth Fadke is also tied for 62nd overall at 8-over par, 152 (77-75). He shot a 3-over par, 75 in round two.

 

No. 3 Texas continues to lead the tournament at 17-under par, followed by No. 37 Baylor (-4), Charlotte (-2), No. 36 Houston (E) and Louisiana Tech (+2). Brax McCarthy of Texas leads the individual tournament at 8-under par.

 

The Aggies will be back in action tomorrow for the final round of play.
