Aggies in Second at WAC Championships

HENDERSON, Nev. - The New Mexico State fired a 2-over par, 290 in the second round of the 2012 Men's Golf WAC Championships at the par 72, 7,332 yard Rio Secco Golf Club and are second overall as a team, just two shots out of the lead.

Junior Justin Shin leads the tournament as an individual after a 4-under par, 68 in round two. He is 6-under par, 138 after two rounds. Shin carded seven birdies on the day with one bogey and a double bogey. 

Senior Gaston De La Torre fired back after a disappointing first round to shoot a 5-under par, 67 in round two, bring him to even par, 144 for the tournament. He recorded six birdies on the day and just one bogey. De La Torre is currently tied for fifth.

Senior Zachery Fullerton went 3-over par, 75 in round two and is 4-over par, 148 for the tournament. He carded two birdies in the second round. Fullerton is tied for 13th.

Redshirt senior Miko Alejandro shot a second round score of 8-over par, 80 with one birdie on Tuesday. Alejandro is currently tied for 33rd overall at 15-over par, 159.

Freshman Cosme Beamonte shot a 10-over par, 82 in the second round with one birdie.  He is tied for 28th overall at 11-over par, 155.

San Jose State leads the tournament at 5-over par, followed NM State, Fresno State (+12), Idaho (+15), Hawai'i (+26), Nevada (+29), Utah State (+31) and Louisiana Tech (+33).

The Aggies and rest of the field will be back on the course Wednesday morning for the final round of the 2012 WAC Championship.
