Men's Golf Finishes 13th at Desert Shootout

Goodyear, Ariz. - The New Mexico State men's golf team carded a 1-over par, 289 in the final round of the 2012 Desert Shootout at the 7,015-yard, par 72 Palm Valley Golf Course. The Aggies finish in 13th out of 15 teams after three rounds at 9-over par, 873.

"Justin put a very good round of golf together today," head coach Mike Dirks said. "over the course of the tournament we improved everyday as a team but we still need that help from the top to the bottom of the lineup with be competitive in these type of tournaments."

Junior Justin Shin carded the lowest round in the tournament field in the final round with an 8-under par, 64. He finished tied for fourth at 8-under par, 208. Senior Gaston De La Torre was 7-over par, 79 in the final round and tied for 31st at 1-over par, 217 for the tournament.

Redshirt senior Miko Alejandro fired a 1-over par, 73 in the third round and was 8-over par, 224 tying for 72nd overall. Junior Derek Baade finished 87th overall after a three round score of 15-over par, 231. He was 4-over par, 76 in the final round. Freshman Cosme Beamonte was also 4-over par, 76 in the final round and finished tied for 89 at 18-over par, 234.

Freshman Simon Miller placed 92nd overall at 20-over par, 236 for the tournament. In the final round we was 6-over par, 78.

Wichita State won the tournament at 28-under par, followed by BYU (-26), Denver (-14), Kansas State (-8) and San Diego (-78). Rafeal Becker of Wichita State won the individual tournament title at 14-under par.

The Aggies will be back in action on April 9-10 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classis in Scottsdale, Ariz.
