FRESNO, Calif. - The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up play at the 2011 Fresno State Lexus Classic, Tuesday afternoon with its best team round of the tournament, a 9-over par, 369. The Aggies finished ninth overall with a three-round team score of 45-over par.
Senior Tim Madigan recorded the Aggies' only round of under par golf in the final round with a 4-under par, 68. Madigan carded five birdies on the day, finishing at 1-under par, 215 for the tournament and tying for fourth overall. Madigan's final round of 4-under par, was the second best score on the day.
Junior Gaston De La Torre shot a final round score of 2-over par, 74 with four birdies and an eagle. He carded an eagle and a double eagle during the two-day tournament. De La Torre ended his tournament at 6-over par, 222, placing in a tie for 23rd. Junior Joon Lee wrapped up his tournament with a 1-over par, 73, recording three birdies on the day. Lee finished tied for 33rd with a three-round score of 8-over par, 224.
Senior Ross Prachar struggled in the final round with a 6-over par, 78, finishing tied for 62nd, with a three-round score of 15-over par, 231. Prachar recorded two birdies in his final round. Freshman Collin Pratt recorded his best round of the tournament with a 4-over par, 76, tallying one birdie and an eagle. Pratt tied for 71st overall with a three-round score of 18-over par, 234.
Junior Zachery Fullerton rounded out the Aggie team competitors with an 8-over par, 80 in the final round. He finished the tournament tied for 93rd with a score of 23-over par, 239. Sophomore Derek Baade, who played the tournament as an individual, carded a final round score of 2-over par, 74. Baade finished tied for 27th overall with a three round score of 7-over par, 223. He tallied one birdie in his final round of play.
San Diego State won the team title with a 3-over par, followed by Pacific (+29), Duke (+30), UC Irvine (+36) and UC Santa Barbara (+40). UC Irvine's Bryan Harris and Pacific's Alex Johnson tied for first overall for the individual title at 6-under par.
The Aggies will be back in action on March 21-22 as they travel to Eugene, Ore., for the Oregon Duck Invitational.
