NM State Menís Golf Tied for 9th at Aggie Invitational

Bryan, Texas -- The New Mexico State men’s golf team is tied for ninth after two rounds of the 2014 Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. The Aggies shot a two-round score of 41-over par, 617 (321-296) at the par-72, 7,146-yard Traditions Golf Club. NM State did shoot the third best team score in the second round, an 8-over par, 296.

“We are an up and down team,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “But our second round score proves we can play with anyone in the country. We showed a lot of heart today to bounce back from a really slow start in the first round. We just need to fight through the tough times.”

Junior Brett Walker leads the Aggies at 4-over par, 148, placing him tied for 13th overall. Walker was 5-over par, 77 in round one before carding a 1-under par, 70 in round two. On the day, Walker recorded six birdies.

Sophomore Kenneth Fadke II also had his best round of the day in the second with an even par, 72. He is currently tied for 37th overall with a two-round score of 11-over par, 155 (83-72), marking down four birdies on the day, all in the second round.

Junior Pat Beyhan and freshman Luis Medina are tied for 52nd at 14-over par, 158. Beyhan shot rounds of 9-over par, 81 and 5-over par, 77 with three birdies in two rounds. Medina carded rounds of 8-over par, 80 and 6-over par, 78, recording three birdies.

Senior Willy Hogan rounded out the Aggie competitors with a two-round score of 23-over par, 167 (91-76). Hogan improved 15 strokes from round one to round two. He is currently tied for 68th after marking two birdies on the day.

No. 25 LSU leads the tournament at 15-over par, followed by Texas A&M (+16), Texas Tech (+21), Oklahoma State (+22) and Kent State (+26). Brandon Hagy of California is the individual leader at 3-under par.
