The Aggies posted a team score of 11-over par, 299, placing them in 14th overall.
“Justin (Shin) drives the ball well off the tee and that is what good golfers do and that is what you need to do at this course,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “The rest of the team just didn’t make enough birdies. I thought we recovered well after a slow start but we also ways seem to player better in the second and third rounds.”
Willy Hogan recorded a 2-over par, 74 in round one and currently sets in a tie for 41st after one birdie on the day.
Derek Baade and Kenneth Fadke both carded 5-over par, 77 in round one. Each golfer tallied one birdie on the day, placing them in a tie for 63rd.
Brett Walker struggled in round one with a 9-over par, 81, recording just one birdie on the day. He currently sits in a tie for 82nd overall.
No. 3 Texas leads the team competition at 3-under par, followed by No. 37 Baylor (-2), Charlotte (+1), No. 41 Chattanooga, UT-Arlington and East Carolina (+2). Brax McCarthy of Texas leads the tournament as an individual at 5-under par.
The Aggies will be back on the course tomorrow morning for round two of the Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
