LAS CRUCES, N.M.—For the fourth straight week, the New Mexico State softball team has earned the Hitter of the Week honors by the Western Athletic Conference. This week, junior centerfielder Staci Rodriguez was honored for the week of Feb. 24-March 2. This is the second time this season Rodriguez has received the honor.
Rodriguez, a Paramount, Calif. native, hit .700 with five home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs scored and a stolen base at the Eller Media Stadium Classic last week. She posted a impressive 2.200 slugging percentage and a .824 on-base percentage, and drew six walks over the five games. Rodriguez smashed two homers in a 13-3 win over Binghamton, including her second grand slam of the season. She also had two bombs in a 14-5 win over Seton Hall and added another in a win over host UNLV.
The team went 3-2 on the weekend to improve to a 13-7 record. NM State now looks to face cross-border rival UTEP on Tuesday, March 4 in El Paso, Texas. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
