LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State softball player Staci Rodriguez was recognized as one of the Players of the Week by ESPNW College Softball Notebook, the media outlet announced Tuesday. The sophomore was one of five players nationally recognized for the weekly honor.
Noticed for helping NM State to a 4-1 record last week, the column noted Rodriguez’s .727 (8-for-11) hitting week through the four final games of the week. While recording only a walk in the Aggies milestone win over No. 17 Arizona, the Paramount, Calif., native came back for three home runs and seven RBI to finish out the week with a split over the Wildcats and a three-game sweep against Western Athletic Conference opponent UTSA.
Rodriguez has been a pivotal part in the Aggies’ 11-1 WAC record this season (30-14 overall) by leading the conference in home runs (16) and RBI (49). Her work at the plate has lifted Rodriguez to No. 9 in the nation for home runs, just five behind the nation’s leader.
NM State heads back out on the road to meet the Texas State Bobcats on April 19-20, in San Marcos, Texas. The teams open the series with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m., and close out the weekend with a single game on Saturday at 12 p.m.
