RUSTON, La. (April 6) - The New Mexico State softball team fell 6-2 to Louisiana Tech at the Lady Techster Softball Complex Friday evening.

Louisiana Tech (15-19, 2-3 WAC) went up 2-0 early then added three in the fifth and tacked one on in the sixth before NM State (18-20, 0-7 WAC) posted two runs in the top of the seventh. The Aggies have dropped eight in a row since a win at No. 14 Arizona on March 21.

Junior Alex Newman started in the circle for the Aggies against Michelle Jones of LA Tech.

NM State sophomore Valerie Swedberg notched the first hit of the game with a two-out double to left center in the top of the first. She advanced to third on a throwing error but the Aggies could not bring her across.

LA Tech scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the frame. After a one-out walk, LA Tech's Janna Frandrup hit a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Lady Techsters a 2-0 lead after one.

The Lady Techsters scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 5-0. LT scored one after a one-out walk, a single and a double to right field. A second LT runner was thrown out at home for the second out of the inning.

The next LT batter reached on an Aggie error. Another double by the home squad scored two unearned runs for the five-run advantage after five innings. Sophomore Celisha Walker came into the game in relief of Newman to close out the inning.

Louisiana Tech tagged Walker with four singles in the bottom of the sixth and chased her from the circle. With another run on the board and the bases loaded, Newman re-entered the game down 6-0 with two outs.  Newman registered a strikeout with the bases loaded to get NM State out of the inning.

NM State opened the top of the seventh with a double from junior Teresa Conrad. A one-out single off the bat of freshman Malena Padilla put runners on the corners. Freshman Kelsey Dodd came into the game to pinch hit and reached on an error after the LT right fielder misplayed the ball. Both base runners scored to make it 6-2 before LA Tech closed out the win.

The Aggies conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader against the Lady Techsters starting at noon MT Saturday.
