NM State Softball to Play In-State Rival New Mexico, Tuesday

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The NM State softball team faces New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M., Tuesday April 29, at 5 p.m.(MT), in the team’s regular season finale before heading to the 2014 WAC Tournament, May 8-11 in Seattle, Wash. NM State is 28-21 on the season. The game can be heard live on KSNM 570 AM beginning at 5 p.m. with Jay Sanderson bringing you the call from the booth.

The Aggies come into the game with the Lobos, riding a two-game winning streak after taking two games from Utah Valley this past weekend. Outfield Malena Padilla helped the Aggies clinch the No. 1 seed in the 2014 WAC Tournament this weekend with two wins over Utah Valley. She hit .556 with a 1.333 slugging percentage. Padilla recorded five hits, three runs, five RBI and a double on the week.

NM State and UNM met earlier this season in mid-March. The Lobos won the game in Las Cruces. After taking a 2-0 lead in the third, the NM State softball team fell 4-3 to its in-state rival.

NM State managed eight hits on the game with three runs while allowing the Lobos to get 10 hits on the day. Junior Staci Rodriguez went 2-for-4 on the day with two runs and two RBI, while the other NM State RBI would come off the bat of fellow junior Lacey Rother.

The NM State pitching staff pitched a combined eight strikeouts, while senior reliever Celisha Walker had five of those in her three innings while facing 10 batters. The right-hand pitcher allowed just one hit on the night without allowing a single walk.

The Aggies are 8-2 over the last ten games with Lobos, including 5-0 in their last five trips to Albuquerque. The last meeting in Albuquerque was in 2013, with the Aggies won 2-0.
