LAS CRUCES, N.M. (July 23) - New Mexico State softball head coach Kathy Rodolph announced that Lacey Rother, a transfer from the University of South Carolina, signed a Financial Aid Agreement on Monday to play for the Aggies beginning in the 2012-13 season.

Rother recently completed her freshman season last spring for the Gamecocks. She started 10 games and played in 31 contests. The 6-0 catcher bats right-handed and throws right-handed.

She hit .200 and belted her first career home run last season at South Carolina. Rother also drew 10 walks to compile a .404 on-base percentage that ranked third overall on the squad.

"We are excited to add Lacey Rother to our Aggie family for 2013," said Rodolph. "She has the potential to be an offensive force in our lineup."

The Long Beach, Calif., native wrapped up her high school career at Lakewood High School for one season. Rother earned Most Valuable Player and First Team honors from the Harry J. Moore League. She hit .430 at the plate, belted five homers and batted in 32 runs leading LHS to a league championship.

She also played one season of volleyball and made the academic honor roll for the Lancers.

Rother transferred from Wilson High School, another member of the Moore league. At WHS she was a two-time all-league selection. During her sophomore season, she reached base at a .443 clip, hit a .483 slugging percentage and drove in 23 runs en route to second team all-league honors. As a freshman, she hit .353 and drove in 15 runs to earn All-Moore League first team honors.

In the offseason Rother played travel ball with the Corona Angels.  The Angels placed in the top five at nationals on three occasions during her time on the squad.

She is the daughter of Timothy and Elizabeth Rother and has two sisters, Linzy and Lexis. Tim played football at the University of Nebraska and in the NFL for the Los Angeles Raiders at defensive tackle. Older sister Linzy currently plays softball at Charleston Southern University.

Rother is the fourth player Rodolph signed to next year's recruiting class joining spring signee Tatum Reedy from Estrella Foothills High School in Goodyear, Ariz., as well as fall signees Emma Adams from Cibola High School in Albuquerque, and Makayla McAdams from Ironwood Ridge High School in Tucson, Ariz.
