RENO, Nev. The New Mexico State baseball team tallied nine runs on 12 hits to pull off the 9-6 victory over the league-leading Nevada Wolf Pack at Peccole Park, Friday, April 17.

Senior centerfielder Richard Stout (Boise, Idaho) lead the offensive charge going 3-for-6 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored.  Junior right hander DJ Simon (Susanville, Calif.) kept his perfect record going 8-0 on the season.  He worked for six innings struck out three batters and gave up only one earned run.

Along with Stout, three other Aggies had a multiple RBI day including Mike Sodders (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Jeff Farnham (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Bryan Marquez (Bonny Lake, Wash.).  Junior catcher Chuck Howard (Las Vegas, Nev.) hit his fifth home run of the season taking the Aggie total to 80.

NM State took an early 3-0 lead after 2 innings of play but the Wolf Pack tied the game in the bottom of the third.  After senior Justin Lucero (Lynnwood, Wash.) got on base to leadoff the top of the fourth, Stout hit a double to right to put runners on second and third.  Two runs would then cross the plate when Farnham doubled to right-center.

Three Aggie runs were put on the board in the top of the fifth to give NM State an 8-3 lead.  Lucero, who got aboard when he was hit by a pitch, scored for the third time in the game on a Sodders RBI single to left field.

NM State added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Howard hit a blast over the left field wall giving the Aggies a six-run lead.  The Aggies held off the Wolf Pack as red shirt freshman Scott Coffman (Albuquerque, N.M.) came in to finish off the game.

The Aggies will take on Nevada in game three of the series at Peccole Park in Reno, Nev., Saturday, April 18 with first pitch set for 2pm (MDT).  The game will be broadcast on the radio at KSNM AM 570 with Jeff Matthews giving the play-by-play action.
