BELLEVUE, Wash. – Senior Ryan Beck became the second New Mexico State pitcher to mark 300 strikeouts in a career as the Aggies bounced back and defeated Seattle U 4-0 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, Wash., Friday, May 17.

Beck entered the game in the top of the seventh after starting pitcher Christopher Bradley worked 6.1 innings and marked six strikeouts while giving up just three hits.  Beck’s 300th strikeout came against the first batter he faced, while he finished the day with three K’s totally 302 on his career.  He needs 21 more strikeouts to break the school record, which is held by former Aggie Gary Goldsmith who played from 1990-93.

The game started with four scoreless innings before NM State exploded for three runs on three hits in the top of the fifth.  Junior Michael Paulson started the inning with a lead-off single up the middle before advancing to second when junior Michael Medina got on with a walk, his 42nd walk of the year.  Junior Quinnton Mack tallied his 21st RBI of the season when he blasted a double to leftfield and junior Tanner Rust followed him with an RBI groundout to the shortstop.  Senior Parker Hipp tallied the last RBI of the inning on a single up the middle to bring in Mack, giving the Aggies a 3-0 lead.

The sixth inning started with a lead-off single by senior Kyle Phillips and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Jory Goldstrom.  Freshman Kent Blackstone helped bring in hitting an RBI single through the right-side.

The Aggies finished the game scoring four runs on eight hits and move to 28-25 on the year and 13-13 in WAC play.  Christopher Bradley was the winning pitcher and is now 5-4 this season.  This marks the fourth shutout NM State has posted this season with the last shutout coming against San Jose State on May 4 when the Aggies won 9-0.

“Baseball is a crazy game. We lost 15-2 yesterday and comeback to shutout today,” head coach Rocky Ward said. “Bradley had good command today and today is probably as good as he has been all year.  He had some good outings at the start of the year but I am really proud of what he did today.”
