Aggies Struggle in Series Opener; Falls 13-1 to the Roadrunners

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The New Mexico State baseball team fell 13-1 in game one of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series, Friday, May 9 at Hardt Field in Bakersfield, Calif. The Aggies fall to 18-26 overall and 9-10 in WAC play while the Roadrunners move to 22-27 on the year and 13-9 in conference play.

NM State scored its one run on three hits and committed two errors while Bakersfield crossed the plate 13 times on 16 hits and did not commit an error. The Aggies used six pitchers in seven innings with starting left-handed pitcher Christopher Bradley getting the loss after working 3.1 innings and giving up seven runs.  Bakersfield starter Taylor Aikenhead got the win after throwing a complete game.

The Aggies were held hitless until shortstop Kent Blackstone led the sixth inning off with a single to right-center.  NM State got its only run of the game in the seventh inning when first baseman Kristoffer Koerper tallied a sacrifice fly to centerfield after senior right fielder Micheal Paulson reached base on a single. Paulson advanced to third on a double by third baseman Derek Umphres.
