Aggies Drop Series After 4-1 Loss to Utah Valley

LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico State baseball team had four hits on the afternoon falling 4-1 to Utah Valley, Sunday, May 4 at Presley Askew Field to drop the series and fall to 18-25 on the year and 9-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.  The Wolverines move to 21-24 overall and 13-8 in league play heading into the final two weeks of regular season play.

NM State tallied four hits on the afternoon while the pitching staff tried to slow down the Wolverine offense striking out seven UVU batters.  Starting right-hand pitcher Zach Freeman was credited with the loss after working 3.1 innings and giving up three runs as UVU starter Andrew Freter earned the win and is now 4-6 on the year after throwing a complete game. 

The Crimson and White finished the day using six pitchers in a game that lasted 2 hours 36 minutes with the No. 2, 3, and 4 hitters in the lineup coming up with a hit each while left fielder Joseph Koerper had the only RBI.

The Aggies head to Bakersfield, Calif. to face Bakersfield in a three-game WAC series, Friday through Sunday, May 9-11.  Friday and Saturday’s games are set for a 7 p.m. (MT) start while Sunday’s game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. (MT) start.  All three games are slated to air over the radio waves in Las Cruces on KGRT AM 570.
