Kristoffer Koerper led NM State at the plate going 3-for-4 with a run scored. He also recorded a double and a team-high six putouts on the night. Billy Conard took the loss for NM State, pitching four innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with three strikes outs. Conard is now 1-1 on the season.
Texas Tech opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. A single by the Red Raiders, followed by a balk put a runner at second with one out. The next Texas Tech batter singled up the middle to score the runner from second, giving the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Aggies tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, Joseph Koerper led off the inning with a walk, followed by a single by Kristoffer Koerper to left field, placing runner at first and second. Michael Paulson then walked to load the bases with no outs. Umphres hit a sac fly to center field, scoring Joseph Koerper from third, tying the game at 1-1. Blackstone would fly out, followed by a strike out by Kyle Young to end the top of the fourth.
Texas Tech answered in the bottom of the fourth, taking back the lead at 2-1. In the fifth, Texas Tech opened up the flood gates, scoring seven runs on eight hits, extending their lead to 9-1. After a scoreless top half of the six for the Aggies, the Red Raiders crossed home plate four more times, taking a commanding 13-1 lead.
The Aggies would score one run in the top of the eighth, making it 13-2. Kristoffer Koerper doubled to right field with one out. Kyle Graf singled to center field, allowing Koerper to score from second. The Red Raiders answered in the bottom of the inning, pushing two more runs across the plate, extending their lead to 15-2, going into the last inning of play.
NM State would go down in order in the top half of the ninth, as Texas Tech took game two of the four-game series, 15-2.
The Aggies will be back on the field for game three Saturday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
