LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team defeated La Salle 8-2 in game one and 4-2 in game two of a doubleheader, Saturday, March 9 at Presley Askew Field.  Senior pitchers Ryan Beck and Michael Ormseth each earned a win on the day taking the Aggies to 7-8 overall on the year.

Beck went 5.0 innings and struck out seven batters in game one, while Ormseth marked six K's in 6.0 innings of work in game two.  NM State out hit the Explorers 20-12 on the day with senior Bobby Lecount and junior Tanner Rust each having a 3-for-6 day with three runs scored each.

The Aggies opened game one with a 4-1 lead after posting two runs in the first and another two in the second with three of the four runners getting on base with a walk or by being hit by a pitch. Beck held La Salle scoreless in the third, fourth and fifth while NM State posted a run off a Kyle Phillips sacrifice fly in the fourth to go up 5-1.

NM State added two more runs in the fifth and before the Explorers crossed the plate once in the sixth making it a 7-2 ball game.  A sacrifice fly by Lecount in the eighth gave NM State an 8-2 lead with junior closer Christopher Bradley making his first appearance of the day ending game one.

The Aggies won 4-2 in a scheduled seven-inning game over La Salle in game two as Ormseth was very efficient retiring 13-of-14 batters from the second through the sixth inning.  NM State posted its four runs on nine hits and tallied one error, while the Explorers marked their two runs in the second inning while finishing the game with four hits.

Bradley made his second appearance of the game in the top of the seventh as he did his job to get a left-handed batter out before senior Casey Collins entered the game to face two batters and earn his second save of the year.

The Aggies wrap up the series with a game at 1:00 p.m. (MDT) at Presley Askew Field.  It will be 50-cent hot dog day and fans can purchase tickets for the game at the ticket booth located in front of the field.  For complete coverage of everything Aggie, go online to www.NMStateSports.com.
