SAN JOSE, Calif. - The New Mexico State baseball team (34-20, 10-7 WAC) won its third straight game win by beating San Jose State (22-28, 5-12 WAC) 4-2 at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif., Saturday, May 19.

The Aggies knocked the Spartans out of any hope to get into the 2012 Western Athletic Conference tournament, and helped their own cause by picking up another league win.  Starting right-hand pitcher Adam Mott got off to a slow start but earned the win going 7 1/3 innings throwing 125 pitches.  Senior Scott Coffman gutted it out throwing an inning to pick up his eighth save of the year.

"He (Mott) is a big strong kid who came in and took care of business today. We got a very good outing from Adam," head coach Rocky Ward said.  "San Jose is a very unique team and one thing they have done this year is score late, so it was good that we could get this win today."

NM State jumped on the board scoring two runs on three hits in the top of the first and never trailed.  After a lead-off double by senior leftfielder Tanner Waite started things off for the Aggies, junior Parker Hipp posted an RBI single down the leftfield line.  Hipp would eventually move over to third on a single by junior Zac Fisher before sophomore Tanner Rust marked an RBI on a sacrifice fly to leftfield.

With the score at 2-1 heading into the fifth, Waite came through with a single through the left side to score Phillips. The Aggies added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a bases loaded walk that gave Hipp his 45th RBI of the year.

The Aggies finished with four runs on seven hits while turning a big double-play in the eighth with the bases loaded and only one out.

If the Aggies win the series finale, the worst they could do is be the No. 2 seed.  With a win from Hawai'i over Nevada combined with a win over the Spartans by NM State, the Aggies could be the regular-season WAC champions.  The final game of the regular season is scheduled for, Sunday, May 20 at 12p.m. (MT).
