SAN JOSE, Calif. - The New Mexico State baseball team (33-20, 9-7 WAC) helped it's own cause by defeating San Jose State (22-27, 5-11 WAC) 3-1 at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif., Friday, May 18.

The Aggies got the upper-hand in what turned out to be a pitchers' dual with junior left-hand starter Ryan Beck picking up his fifth win after allowing one run on three hits in seven and two-thirds innings.  Coffman earned win No. 7 of the year as he worked one and one-third of an inning with out giving up a hit. Beck tallied five K's against the Spartans and now has a WAC-high 93 on the year.  Coffman's save gives him 21 on his career, while he needs two more to tie the single season record. Beck's win is his 18th-career, tying him for seventh on the all-time list and he now has 218 K's during his three years with the Aggies.

Junior catcher Zac Fisher picked up all three RBI's for the Aggies on Friday as he went 2-of-4 at the dish with a two-run homer in the third before he marked an RBI single up the middle in the first. Senior Bryan Karraker set the table for Fisher to start a three-RBI day as he got on with a double to centerfield.

The Aggies move to 9-7 in league play to tie Hawai'i for at least a few hours as the Rainbows face Nevada at 10:35p.m. (MT) on Friday night. Nevada heads into the match-up with UH with a 10-6 WAC record and in first.

"Ryan Beck had a great outing," head coach Rocky Ward said. "We didn't put up too many runs but he sucked it up and did what he had to do."

The Aggies take on SJSU in game two of the series, Saturday, May 19 at 2:00p.m. (MT) with radio coverage available on KSNM AM 570 with Jeff Matthews giving the play-by-play. Live stats are available on the Internet at www.NMStateSports.com free of charge.
