FRESNO, Calif. - The New Mexico State baseball team (32-19, 7-12 WAC) was run-ruled for the third straight time as it fell to Fresno State (35-11, 15-7 WAC) 17-2 at Pete Beiden Field, Saturday, May 14.
NM State posted nine hits with one run coming on a solo-homer by senior catcher Chuck Howard and the other coming on an RBI double by junior outfielder Tanner Waite. Waite finished the day 2-of-4 at the dish, while Howard was a perfect 3-for-3.
The Aggies didn't help themselves out on the defensive side of the field either marking five errors in the game. Fresno State posted its 17 runs on 17 hits, while there were three home runs hit by the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs jumped out of an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Howard's solo shot in the third pulled the Aggies to within two at 3-1. Fresno State posted another three runs in the bottom of the third and blew the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth marking nine runs while sending fifteen batters to the plate. FSU added two more runs in the sixth before Waite brought in junior Andy Lyon taking it to the final score of 17-2.NM State faces the Bulldogs in the series finale, Sunday, May 15 at 2:05 p.m. (MT) with radio coverage on KSNM AM 570.
