LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State baseball team clinches a three-game Western Athletic Conference series after defeating Dallas Baptist 7-5 at Presley Askew Field, Saturday, April 6.  The win moves NM State to 18-14 on the year and 4-4 in league play while DBU falls to 16-15 overall and 4-4 in the WAC.

The Aggies started the game off on fire offensively posting five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.  Senior Parker Hipp and senior Bobby Lecount tallied RBI doubles before junior Michael Paulson and senior Kyle Phillips followed with a home run each.

The Dallas Baptist offense answered back scoring two runs in the second and three solo home runs in the third to tie the game at 5-5.

Senior right-hander Casey Collins entered the game in the top of the third and worked 5.1 innings without giving up a single run to pick up the win.  He is now 4-3 on the year in 42.2 innings of work.  Senior reliever Evan Mott tallied his first save of the season after he came into the game in the ninth inning and struck out three of the four batters he faced.  Mott entered the game with two runners on but fought through it to help the Aggies pick up the win.

The final two runs of the game came in the bottom of the seventh after the first two Aggie batters got on board with walks.  Lecount posted the go-ahead RBI single before an RBI single by Paulson took the score to 7-5.  Lecount finished the night going 2-of-3 at the dish to go along with two RBIs and a run scored, while Paulson went 2-of-4 with three RBIs.

The series finale between NM State and the Patriots is set for a 1:05 p.m. (MT) start, Sunday, April 7 at Presley Askew Field. Listen to the action on the radio at KSNM AM 570.
