LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The New Mexico State track and field team enters its third week of competition when it travels to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Masked Rider Invitational on Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
The Aggies come off the Cherry and Silver Invite (Jan. 25), where the team performed well and were matched up against several athletes that are expected to be in the national championship picture as the season winds down.
Senior Alishia Perkins competed in the 60-and-200-meter dash at the Cherry and Silver. She finished first for the Aggies in both events, and placed 20th overall in a field of 93 runners in the 200-meter dash.
Freshman Paige Patterson competed well in the 200-and-400-meter dash. She finished second to Perkins for the Aggies in the 200-meter dash. She also finished first for the Aggies in the 400-meter dash and 12th overall in a field of 59 runners with a time of 56.97, which moved her to fourth all-time for the Aggies.
Fellow freshman Akuadasou Ezenyilimba also showed improvement in the 20-pound weight throw, where she finished 14th in a field of 27 throwers, with a distance of 14.71m (48’3”).
The upperclassmen are also making their improvements as the season progresses. Senior Zoe Meade competed in the shot put, where she finished first for the Aggies with a throw of 11.91m (39’1”).
Junior Diana Hawk ran the one-mile run where she finished first for the Aggies and placed 14th out of 50 runners overall with a time of 5:09.74.
After the Masked Rider, the Aggies travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 14-15.
