Aggies Kick Off WAC Championships with Heptathlon

MOSCOW, IDAHO-The New Mexico State University track and field team began competition in the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with the heptathlon on Tuesday, May 8.

The Aggies had sophomore Zoe Meade and junior Deserae Cota compete in the opening events.  Meade currently holds the overall lead in the event with a total of 3,171 points. 

The day began with the 100m hurdles.  Cota placed sixth overall with a time of 15.48 for 779 points and Meade finished eighth overall with a time of 15.54 for 772 points.

Cota and Meade next competed in the high jump.  Meade finished second overall with a mark of 1.72m for 879 points and Cota finished seventh with a mark of 1.45m for 566 points.

The third event for Cota and Meade was the shot put.  Meade finished third overall with a mark of 11.12m for 603 points and Cota finished eighth with a mark of 8.75m for 448 points.

The final event for the day was the 200m.  Meade finished first overall with a time of 24.67 for 917 points and Cota finished third overall with a time of 26.07 for 791 points.

The Aggies continue competition today through May 11.
