San Marcos, Texas- The New Mexico State track and field squad competed at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas this weekend.
The Aggies had 13 top five finishes including a win in the 3,000m steeplechase by Chelsa McDonnell, who finished in a time of 11:07.70. Placing second in the steeplechase was Jenna Padilla who clocked in with a time of 11:33.82.
The 4x100m foursome of Alishia Perkins, Leah Benton, LaSasha Aldredge, and Jndia Cleveland finished second with a time of 45.91 behind future conference foe the University of Texas at San Antonio who won by a tenth of a second with a time of 45.90. The four girls also had solid days individually with Cleveland leading the way with two second place finishes in the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. Cleveland had times of 14.28 and 1:00.87 in those events respectively. Perkins had a second place finish in the 200m with a time of 24.08, while also placing fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.08. Benton placed third in two events including the 100m (12.03) and the 200m (24.21). Aldredge rounded out the four girls with a second place finish in the 400m, finishing in a time of 55.44.
Other Aggies finishing in the top five of events were Melanie Clay and Christy Barela, who finished second and fourth in the 800m with times of 2:14.17 and 2:16.81.
In the field events Bellosie Frazier placed second in the shot put with a throw of 13.43m (44-00.75).
NM State's next meet is the WAC Championships which will be held in Honolulu, Hawai'I beginning Tuesday, May, 10 and going through Friday, May, 13. The action is slated all day for all four days.
