ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State women's track and field squad recorded four wins and finished near the top in several other events at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Tailwind Invite this weekend.
LaSasha Aldredge started off the Aggies winning ways by placing first in the 400m with a time of 55.27. Aldredge was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that included Leah Benton, Jndia Cleveland, and Melanie Clay that finished first with a time of 3:47.15. Aldredge also ran on the 4x100m relay team that finished second in a time of 46.78. That team included Benton, Alishia Perkins, and Cleveland as well. Aldredge finished her day by placing sixth in the 200m with a time of 24.81.
Other Aggies placing first on the day were Samantha Thompson who won the 800m with a time of 2:13.85 and Courtney Schultz who won the 3,000m in a time of 10:01.82. Camille Schultz finished right behind her sister in the 3,000m by placing second in a time of 10:02.24 while Madelyn Stoltze finished fifth with a time of 11:10.18.
Other noteworthy finishes of the day were Chelsa McDonnell who finished third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:49.42 and Bellosie Frazier who finished second in the shot put with a throw of 13.44m or 44-01.25.
NM State continues the outdoor track and field season next week in Arizona where the team will compete in two meets. The team will compete at the Arizona State University (ASU) Sun Angel Invite in Phoenix, Ariz., on Fri. Apr. 8th and Sat. Apr. 9th with the action beginning at 9am (MT) both days. The Aggies are also scheduled to compete at the Mesa Community College meet Fri, Apr. 9th at 5pm (MT).
