EL PASO, TEXAS - The New Mexico State women's track and field team had several solid performances this weekend at the UTEP Springtime Invite in El Paso, Texas.
The Aggies dominated the 1500m race placing six girls in the top ten. Leading the way for the Aggies was Courtney Schultz who won the race with a time of 4:40.83. Just behind Schultz was her sister Camille Schultz and teammate Samantha Thompson who placed third and fourth respectively with times of 4:47.37 and 4:48.23. Other Aggies placing in the top ten of the 1500m were Chelsa McDonnell (6th, 4:55.78), Christy Barela (9th, 5:00.98), and Jenna Padilla (10th, 5:01.65).
Another Aggie taking home first place was last week's Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Track Athlete of the Week Jndia Cleveland. Cleveland won the long jump with a leap of 6.04m, which also moved her from sixth to third on the NM State all-time list. Cleveland also ran in the 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay. She placed fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.12, while her relay team of Leah Benton, LaSasha Aldredge and Alishia Perkins finished fourth with a time of 46.20.
Aldredge also had a good weekend placing third in the 400m with a time of 56.48 and fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.43 to go along with her 4x100 relay teams fourth place finish. Aldredge was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that included Zoe Meade, Melanie Clay, and Kayla Nagunst. The foursome finished fifth with a time of 3:56.94.
Other Aggies doing well in other events was Perkins, Clay, and Meade. Perkins placed third in the 200m with a time of 24.35 to go along with her 4x100m relay teams fourth place finish. Clay placed fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:17.50 along with her 4x400m relay teams fifth place finish. As for Meade she tied for third in the high jump with a jump of 1.65m along with being a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished fifth.
The Aggies continue the outdoor season next weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. at the UNM Tailwind Invite. The action begins at 10 a.m. (MT).
