SAN MARCOS, Texas—The New Mexico State track and field team completed the second day of the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas on Friday, March 28.
The first day of competition consisted mainly of the multi-events, including the women’s heptathlon and the men’s decathlon. No Aggies competed in the heptathlon on Thursday.
Junior Taylor Black did compete for the Aggies in the pole vault where she finished 11th overall with a height of 3.55m (11’7.75”)
In the discus throw, the Aggies were led by freshman Alexandra Winebark, who finished with a throw of 41.43m (135’11”). Fellow freshman Akuadasou Ezenyilimba also competed in the discus, where she had a throw of 39.50m (129’7”).
On Friday, the Aggies competed in the hammer throw for field events and also got started on the track events. In the hammer throw, NM State was led by Ezenyilimba, who finished with a distance of 44.03m (144’5”). Winebark and junior Alexandra Ecsedy also competed in the hammer throw.
Junior Diana Hawk finished first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:34.67. She was joined by fellow junior Megan McNally, who finished 13th with a time of 4:52.35.
In the 100-meter dash, senior Alishia Perkins led the way for the Aggies with a 10th-place finish with a time of 12.04. She was followed closely by junior Jenna Banegas who finished 12th.
Freshman Savannah Coleman took part in the 400-meter hurdles, where she earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:04.16.
Three Aggies finished in the top 10 in the 400-meter dash led by senior Brianna Cromartie, who finished fifth with a time of 56.79. She was followed closely by freshman Paige Patterson, who finished with a time of 57.74, which earned her a sixth-place finish. Sophomore Latrice Brooks earned a 10th-place finish with a time of 58.36.
NM State wraps up the Bobcat Invitational Saturday, March 29. On the final day of competition, the Aggies will compete in several different track and field events including 4x400-meter relay, the 200-meter dash, 3000-meter run and the javelin throw.
