LAS CRUCES, N.M.—Freshman track and field athlete Akuadasou Ezenyilimba has made the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association list for her performance in the 20-pound weight throw this season.
Ezenyilimba is ranked fifth on the under-20 list with a throw of 15.67m (51-5) that she had at the Red Raider Open (Feb. 14). The distance moves her into ninth all-time for the Aggies.
“The 20-pound weight throw is a brand new event for her,” assistant coach Larry Carmichael said. “She’s been working real hard and concentrating on this event and we’re pleased to see where she’s at right now knowing that the indoor championships are still on the schedule.”
Throughout the season, Ezenyilimba has shown improvement in the event. She has thrown for distances of 14.71m (48-3), 14.35m (47-1) and 14.90m (48-10) before marking her best throw at the Red Raider Open.
Ezenyilimba has also competed in the shot put throughout the season, but has found the most success in the 20-pound weight throw.
Along with the rest of the track and field team, Ezenyilimba will be in action on Feb. 26-28, when the Aggies competed in the 2014 Indoor WAC Championships in Moscow, Idaho.
