LAS CRUCES, N.M.-Four Aggies will represent the New Mexico State University track and field team next weekend at the NCAA Preliminary Round Championships, scheduled for May 24-26.
NM State will be competing in the west division, which will take place in Austin, Texas.
Sophomore Alishia Perkins was selected to compete in the 200m, junior LaSasha Aldredge will compete in the 400m, senior Jndia Cleveland will compete in the long jump and senior Kelsey Brennan will compete in the javelin throw.
"We are excited for these girls to make it," said head track and field coach Orin Richburg. "We would always like to have more so that is something we would like to work on."
Finalists are chosen based off their top marks during the season. Perkins ran her best time in the 200m at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on May 8, when she posted at time of 24.01. Aldredge ran her best time in the 400m at the WAC Championships as well with a time of 53.41. Cleveland marked her best distance in the long jump at the UTEP Invitational on April 14, with a mark of 5.99m. Brennan recorded her best javelin throw at the WAC Championships with a mark of 45.76m.
"As we are moving forward in the program, we are trying to move as many athletes to the next level," Richburg said. "Our goal is to start competing at the national level."
