Aggies Travel to WAC Championships

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Feb. 21)-The New Mexico State swimming and diving team is traveling to the WAC Championships, Wednesday, Feb. 23 to Saturday, Feb. 26, in San Antonio, Texas. The Aggies are looking for their first WAC crown.

“This is the best team NM State has had and our expectations are extremely high,” head coach Rick Pratt said. “To expect a title is what we have been striving for and a big goal for our team.”

The Aggies posted their best finish in school history last year with a second-place showing. NM State scored 494 points in 2010 and won three individual titles including senior Alannah Lawrence (100 breaststroke), junior Maria Spies (200 breaststroke) and then senior Elisabeth Thomson (1,650 freestyle).

“However, instead of only focusing on where we will end up, we’ve been concentrating on the process. This means hard work, making sacrifices and having determination on everything we do. And for that I am extremely proud of the team for what we have accomplished this season.

“I expect each individual to perform lifetime bests and carry themselves with great pride. If we can do that, then certainly a title is possible. This is an exciting week and we’re ready to let them loose and see what happens.”
