Release:  09/09/2013

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The New Mexico State cross country team continues its season at Horizon City, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 13, for the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational.

The NM State women’s team enters the Lori Fitzgerald riding the momentum of its first-place team finish at the Lobo Invitational, Sept. 7. The Aggies also swept the top-three positions individually at the meet.

In the 2012 Lori Fitzgerald Invite, the women’s team won, defeating UTEP and El Paso Community College. The Aggies placed seven runners in the top-10 in last year’s event.

Junior Diana Hawk continued her strong early-season performance by finishing first overall at the Lobo Invitational. Hawk has now finished first overall in the first two competitions of the season. Last year, Hawk finished eighth with a time of 19:27.15.

The Aggies are also receiving strong contributions from junior Megan McNally. She finished second for the Aggies in both competitions and finished second overall at the Lobo Invitational.

Senior Sarabel Bojorquez finished third overall last weekend and looks to find success in an event that she performed well in last year. Bojorquez finished fifth overall last year with a time of 19:21.78.

The men’s team enters this weekend coming off a third-place finish at the Lobo Invitational. Last year, the men finished second at the Lori Fitzgerald Invite.

Junior Nathan Starr finished first for the Aggies in both competitions this season. Starr recorded a time of 15:59 in the last meet, which placed him 11th overall.

Junior Daniel Rubio finished 12th overall in the Lobo Invitational. This was his Aggie debut.

The Aggies will have a week off after the Lori Fitzgerald Invite to prepare for the Kachina Classic, which they host on Sept. 28.
