Courtney Schultz Named WAC Athlete of the Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M.-Courtney Schultz from the New Mexico State University cross country team was selected as the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 8-14, her third time receiving the award this season. 

Schultz, a senior from Cloudcroft, N.M. (Cloudcroft H.S.), finished first overall for all scoring individuals with a time of 17:00.5 in the women's 5K at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif., on Saturday, Oct. 13. This is the second time this season Schultz has finished first overall and the fourth time she has finished first for N.M. State. Schultz assisted the Aggies to a third-place finish, defeating nationally ranked PAC-12 schools Colorado and UCLA.

This is the third time this season Schultz has won the award.  Schultz was named WAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season for the week of Sept. 24-30 and for the first time this season on the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2.

Schultz received the conference honors most recently when she posted one of her best career results when she finished second overall at the Rim Rock Collegiate Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., with a time of 20:30.90 in the 6K. Schultz finished just one second behind Rebecca Addison of Michigan who finished first overall.  Schultz now owns the second-best record all-time for that particular course design. The third-place finisher crossed the finish line 15 seconds behind Schultz.

Schultz received her first honor as WAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first week of the cross country season for the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2 when she placed first overall at the Lobo Invitational with a time of 18:11.9 in the 5K.

Schultz and the rest of the Aggies have the week off to prepare for the WAC Championships in Ruston, La., on scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27.
