Las Cruces, N.M.-Sophomore Kevin Palmer was named the Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for cross country for his performance at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Palmer, a sophomore from Albuquerque, N.M. (Eldorado HS), posted his best overall finish of the season at the Grand Canyon Invitational by placing eighth overall and first for NM State with an 8K time of 25:47.9.  Palmer beat out some of the region's best athletes, including many runners from No. 23 Arizona State and Arizona.
