Las Cruces, N.M.-The New Mexico State University cross country team made another strong outing in its second meet of the season, finishing 2nd at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational in Santa Teresa, N.M., Saturday, Sept. 10.
The men's and women's team each finished in 2nd behind UTEP. The men's team finished with 35 points and the women's team finished with 49 points.
For a second-straight meet Junior Jonah Ruybalid earned the best time for an Aggie with 21:43.4 in the 6664m run. Ruybalid's time was good for 5th overall.
Senior Victor Sanchez finished 7th overall with a time of 23:53.1, junior Ian Ruybalid finished 8th overall with a time of 21:55.2 and Junior Rob Selph finished 9th overall with a time of 22:03.9. Overall four Aggies finished in the top 10 and eight Aggies finished in the top 15.
On the women's side a pair of freshmen led the pack for the Aggies. Freshman Tamara Lementino finished with the best time for an Aggie with 20:07.8 in the 5080m run, good for 6th overall. Freshman Caroline Lewiecki finished 9th overall with a time of 20:13.5.
Two Aggies finished in the top 10 and eight Aggies finished in the top 20.
NM State will host the Kachina Classic next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 7.
